{{Menu SDF60|Hotel feedback from the 2009 ESI set theory conference}} After the ESI2009 conference, we requested feedback (via an anonymous online survey) in particular regarding the hotels. == Grades == Hotels were graded with A (best) to F (worst). (I understand that might have something to do with the cost.) *nice location, nice staff, room service good, but my room was a bit small === Falstaff === *I liked the fact that Falstaff pension was close to the conference place and was affordable. *The staff in Pension Falstaff was very kind and helpful, but the room could have been in better condition (e.g. it was impossible to close the door of my room without locking it). *The lack of a laundry in the hotel (Falstaff) was a nuisance. *I found Pension Ani Falstaff to be very nice. The people there were very helpful, and the breakfasts quite pleasant. The main downside was that the room was quite small, and as a result, it was difficult to get much work done there. === Boltzmann === *A very fine place, good service and good breakfast, excellent location. On the negative side the room is really small. * It was very convinient that Arcotel Boltzman was very close to the institute. *In Arcotel they serve very good breakfasts. *Tried to put me up in a sustandard room; changed it after I complained. *Bar closes too early *Very close to the conference location. Excellent breakfast. *The main problem with the hotel is they did not have an iron. I needed to iron my shirts before coming to the conference. I even asked them if they had something I could use, and they said no. Maybe this is a European thing, but how can an international traveller attend a professional meeting without being able to iron his shirts?? *Location of Boltzmann was excellent *They gave magnificent breakfasts, and my room looked out over trees. *It would have been nice if the Arcotel Boltzmann had had internet access available in the rooms. Instead, unless one was on the first floor, it was necessary to go to the lobby to go online. Otherwise, it was a great hotel (although it would also have been nice if the hotel had air conditioning). * It would be nice if wireless network is included and available in the room. Note: Boltzmann now offers free WLAN in all rooms. === Bellevue === *breakfast:good, wifi bad *Very convenient location, clean rooms with amenities, complimentary breakfast. There was nothing which I disliked. *Name was not appropriate (horrible view) and the room was very hot the first week. The Breakfasts were fantastic. *The Bellevue is a classic and confortable hotel. The breakfast is excellent and the food at the restaurant is very good and reasonably priced. The location is not optimal. I would have preferred a hotel closer to the ESI. *Internet access at the Bellevue was amazingly expensive and worthlessly slow. The free internet access at McDonalds across the street was ok, but permitted only web browsing---no ssh or pop3 mail. Of course the wifi at the ESI is excellent. In fairness, we were warned about the likelihood of poor access outside the ESI. What's surprising is that on the way to Vienna, we stayed at a 1 star hotel in Paris that had excellent free wifi. The Bellevue is 4 star. And it's in Austria. The breakfasts at the Bellevue were great, though the coffee at the ESI was better. === Kaiser Franz Josef === *wlan expensive *pro: high standard hotel, quiet, with kitchenette, in nice area, low rate for 15 nights con: WLAN much too expensive *Nice apartment. The WLAN is ridiculously expensive and based on the (misleading) advertisement of the hotel I thought that it is included in the room price. *I liked the room, the fact that there was a direct tram line from the hotel to the ESI, the kitchen in the room and the helpfulness of the staff. The only bad thing was the lack of free (or cheap) internet. *Nice place, reasonably priced, a bit far from the ESI but that was no problem thanks to the tram. The one annoying thing was that the wireless service is very expensive (70€ for a week) which means that I'll try to avoid that hotel if I ever go back to Vienna. Note: Kaiser Franz Josef offers free WLAN in all rooms starting January 2013.
