History of natural sciences

Will a conceptual change of a whole field necessarily require a radically new idea, or can such a change also be brought about by daily practice, the steady application of methodology imminent to the field? Regarding this question we will track the development of the so-called forcing method in set theory through history. We aim for an overall picture to emerge through our study that enables an answer to the question whether–and if so, how–the forcing method and its application changed modern set theory fundamentally.
