Kurt Gödel Research Center for Mathematical Logic (KGRC), Vienna

The KGRC is named after Kurt Gödel, who proved the completeness and the incompleteness theorems in Vienna in the years 1929–1931, arguably the most groundbreaking work in mathematical logic of modern times. The KGRC was a research platform of the University of Vienna until the group was merged into the institute of mathematics of the University of Vienna effective January 1, 2019.

• June 2023: Vera Fischer successfully passes the evaluation of her qualification agreement and is promoted to Associate Professor. Congratulations Vera on this achievement!
• July 2022: Ömer Bag defends his PhD thesis. Congratulations Ömer!
• July 2022: Sandra Müller is awarded the "Förderungspreis" of the Austrian Mathematical Society. Congratulations Sandra!
• June 2022: We have an opening for a tenure track position in mathematical logic.
• June 2022: Sandra Müller is awarded a START prize. The START prize is one of the most recognized prizes for young scientists in Austria and includes prize money up to 1.2 million Euro. Congratulations Sandra!
• October 2021: We are happy to announce that Jeffrey Bergfalk has been awarded the 2021 Mary Ellen Rudin Young Researcher Award, an annual award which “aims to celebrate Mary Ellen Rudin’s achievements and her legacy by encouraging the development of young talent in topology.” He receives the award for “his exceptional work on the interactions between algebraic topology and set theory.” Congratulations, Jeffrey!
• February 2021: Vera Fischer accepts a tenure-track professorship in mathematical logic.
• December 2020: Jonathan Schilhan defends his PhD thesis. Congratulations Jonathan!
• December 2020: Sandra Müller is awarded a L'Oreal Austria fellowship and Elise Richter fellowship. Congratulations Sandra!
• July 2020: Matthias Aschenbrenner joins the KGRC as director of the group.
• July 2018: Vera Fischer wins this year's Prize of the Austrian Mathematical Society. It is awarded at the "Day of Mathematics" at the Faculty of Mathematics on November 9.
• May 2018: Zoltán Vidnyánszky receives the 2018 Paul Turán award. The prize is awarded for Hungarian mathematicians under 40 for internationally recognized excellence in research related to Paul Turán's work and its applications. (Short note in Hungarian language.)
• December 2017: Daniel Soukup receives the Grünwald Géza Prize from the Bolyai Society at the Rényi Institute. The prize is awarded since 1951 to Hungarian mathematicians under 30 for outstanding achievements in pure mathematics research.
• September 2017: Ben Miller is promoted to full professor.
• June 2017: Vera Fischer is awarded a START prize. The START prize is one of the most recognized prizes for young scientists in Austria and includes prize money up to 1.2 million Euro. (All prize winners of 2017 and their projects, introduction in German; photos of the prize giving ceremony.)
• June 2017: Diana Montoya successfully defends her PhD thesis. Congratulations Diana!
